Water - Source of life
Water is essential for life. All known forms of life depend on it - the average human body is 65% water. its availability is a major social and economic concern. Yet over 1 billion people drink unhealthy water.
The UN reports that: ‘half of the worlds hospital beds are occupied by patients suffering from water-related diseases’.
Access to clean water is vital because more than 5 million people die each year from drinking polluted water. This can be prevented.
Providing safe and clean water has been a major part of Human Appeal International’s development work since 1991. Our water and sanitation projects help people to take the first essential steps out of the cycle of poverty and disease. We have helped millions of people by installing hand-pumps tube wells and huge storage tankers (which supply water to over 20 000 people). We run education programmes on the dangers of unsafe water and related diseases teaching communities effective hygiene practices.
The impact clean water can have on a community is huge. In Britain during the 1880s the expansion of sanitation projects contributed to a 15-year increase in life expectancy. With your support we can achieve similar results in Africa and Asia. Societies really can develop and prosper with access to clean water. Your generosity will make a massive difference.
